Q&A: Move-in Rules

Q I have lived in a unit for the past three years. I am planning on having my boyfriend move in with me in a few months. Are there any community or state rules or regulations that will prevent this from happening?

A “In Illinois, there are no state rules, regulations or statutes that would prohibit your boyfriend from moving in and living with you,” says attorney Jeanne M. Miller from the Law Offices of Jeanne M. Miller in McHenry. “However, you should review your condo or homeowners’ association governing documents (bylaws, declarations, rules and regulations) to ensure that such an arrangement does not in any way infringe on some community rule.”
